Marcia Vaitsman: The whiteness of an exotic place

Marcia has worked since 1995 as a media artist in São Paulo and Cologne. She graduated in Media Studies at the University of São Paulo (ECA/USP) and then at the Academy of Media Arts of Cologne (KHM), Germany. From 1992 until 1995 she took several study visits to the University of Vienna (German and Media Institutes). She has worked with “Tabuleiro da Baiana” (São Paulo) and “Candyland Comics” (Curitiba, ongoing). Between 1999 and 2001, she worked as a tutor for the multimedia and performance atelier of Valie Export and later for the Department of Media Design, both at KHM. From 2002 to 2007, she worked as a member of the artist/teaching staff of KHM as a lecturer. Marcia lived in Alaska in 1989-90. She has received the EMMA (Electronic Multimedia Award) in the UK; the granted residence from IAMAS, Japan; project grants from the Prince Claus Fund, Netherlands and the UNESCO-Aschberg granted fellowship residence at Cable Factory in Helsinki. In 2008, she opened the studio for creative processes “Estúdio Índigo” with Marcio Harum.
